Fallout 3 Survival Edition Comes with Pip-Boy 3000 Alarm Clock. WTF?
I’ll admit it: I’m a man whore when it comes to any game edition containing the words “limited,” “collector,” or “extended.” If you’re a geek, it goes with the territory. And it didn’t take long before game publishers caught on. There’s the Legendary Edition of Halo 3 complete with the Spartan Mjolnir Mark VI Helmet and the limited edition of Stranglehold that includes a Blu-ray version of “Hard Boiled.”
If that wasn’t enough, recently, Amazon snagged an exclusive deal to sell the “Fallout 3: Survival Edition,” which is a tier above the collector’s edition. What makes it so special? A replica of the Pip-Boy 3000 that’s about the size of an alarm clock. The asking price: $129.99.
I’m a fan of the Fallout series. I even played Wasteland, the series’ ancestor, back in the ’80s. But do I love the Fallout series enough to drop a Franklin, a Benjamin AND a Jefferson on a video game?
I suppose it depends on your devotion, and there are some hardcore, Fallout fans out there. Sure, as consumers, we have the option to pay $60 instead of $130. But when you slap “limited edition” on it, it teases the ego in a sometimes irresistible way. In 10 years, are you going to pay $10,000 for the limited edition of Metal Gear Solid 10 that includes the robotic Octagon suit? Of course you are. You did get the limited edition of MGS4 already, didn’t you? Yeah, I thought so.
