“Echoes of Doom” comes to World of Warcraft
Aside from actual gameplay changes, Blizzard also added some more social, non-combat elements to their MMORPG. For example, barbers can now be found in many of the major cities of Azeroth, giving players the opportunity to change their character’s hairstyle, facial hair, and hair color. Before this patch, if you gave your gnome a dumb haircut, you were stuck with it for a very, very long time.
The last, but certainly not least item that I’ll touch on is a dangerous one. Dangerous, I say, because Blizzard added another way to kill enormous amounts of time to a game that is already the biggest time-sink of all time. I speak, of course, of the sweeping new Achievements system that Blizzard has implemented. Players can now receive Achievements for accomplishing certain tasks in the game, accruing Achievement Points and, for particularly difficult Achievements, being rewarded with a title, tabard, or even a special mount.

These Achievements can be fairly mundane, like hitting a certain level; time-consuming, like exploring every zone; to downright ridiculous, like performing an emote on every non-combat critter in the game. The Achievement bug hasn’t bitten me just yet, but I know that several members of my Guild have done nothing but explore zones since the patch came out.
There you have it folks, a taste of what “Echoes of Doom” has in store for you. With all of these new additions paving the way for the arrival of the Lich King on November 13th, it’s a very exciting time to be a WoW fan. For full details on the “Echoes of Doom” patch, click here.
