E3 SouthPeak Games - Raven Squad & Section 8

gotgame e3My meeting with SouthPeak Games was with two of their titles, Raven Squad and Section 8.

Both games were in good form, and since I saw Section 8 at GDC, I was interested in seeing where the title had progressed since then.

Raven Squad

A third person/first person shooter for PC and Xbox360, it worked well, the way I played the game was using the third-person RTS function to find enemies and move my soldiers into place before jumping into first-person to take out enemies one by one. Taking place in South America, I didn’t hear a lot about the story, but the gameplay was solid.

Graphically, it wasn’t the best looking title, somewhat like Full Spectrum Warrior for Xbox. I think the gameplay works through the graphics and helps the game, but since it doesn’t look like a next-gen game, I don’t know if there will be a lot of interest.

Section 8

I had played this at the Game Developers Conference and was just seeing what the updates were. At GDC the AI bots weren’t completely programmed so they mainly ran around, but the game at E3 was a 32 player match with 16 players and 16 bots. The control on Xbox360 controller was a little slower than PC, but it was a stronger presentation of the title.

During the match, I found that the Xbox360 controller works well for the title, but there is a larger degree of control through a mouse and keyboard.

I will be going back to try it again.
