From Captain Richard Phillips, to Captain Fatbeard, pirates seem to have been in the news a lot lately. The pirates I’m thinking of though are not the dangerous and deadly ones prowling the Somalian coasts. No, I speak of course about e-pirates. While unlikely to kill or kidnap you, they do their fair share of financial plundering and are actually more likely to have a direct impact on you, the honest consumers.

After viewing the opening cinematic for the highly-anticipated FPS Wolfenstein (a simple, but effective title), many questions began to come to mind concerning the gameplay elements of the title.
The video leaves plenty of dead Nazi scum in its wake but let’s take a deeper look and see what the meat and bones of this cinematic reveals.

In March, a pair of filmmakers approached me with the invitation to participate in a documentary film they’re producing. The film is titled Your Computer is Killing You: The Side-Effects of a Techy Lifestyle and explores the unforeseen side effects of the rapid integration of technology into our culture. They’d seen my article on video game addiction and asked me to elaborate on my experience as one of their sources.

When I wrote The Free to Play, Microtransaction Model, I did not expect companies to be contacting me. Pleasantly surprising though, Perfect World Entertainment contacted me and I had a chat with two Product Managers about their titles (Perfect World International and Ether Saga Online) and the Free to Play model. With every person I talk to, this model appears to becoming more prevalent among developers.
