If undead-centric films and games have taught me anything, it’s that it takes more than a few headshots to keep a good zombie plague down. Resident Evil, George Romero… the undead always come back bigger and badder for a second helping of the helpless.

A wise man (played by Jeff Goldblum) once said, “[They] were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” The quote is from the 1993 film Jurassic Park and I think it has an application to today’s video game industry. For years, people have been debating the possibility of putting real time strategy games on consoles. Countless attempts have come and gone, all being considered failures to some degree. The most recent being Halo Wars and the verbal debate on console RTSs is again in full swing.

Gamer Soundcheck is back, although not really with a vengeance. I like to think my posts are a bit more benevolent than that.
Anyway, this time around, GS is looking at a band that’s all about giving video game music a little soul (and a bit of Latin and funk, just for good measure): The OneUps.
I recently sat down with the band’s bassist and manager, Mustin, (or at least, I assume he was also sitting when I called him) and asked him a few questions.
Here’s what he had to say about Mario Paint, that one dude who always yells “play ‘Free Bird!’” and video game music’s nostalgic appeal:

Today, I was playing GTA4 and went on its fake dating site to email a girl to go on a date with. I’ve never had much luck with dating in real life, so I figured the game would be more kind to me. After a while I went back to check my email, and the fake girl I propositioned says to get lost.
