Are Reviews Really That Important?

Nov '0830

When you’re debating about buying a game, what factors into your decision? Is it the genre, how much hype the game has gotten, personal preference—or do you rely on reviews? Every person is different in what genre of gameplay they like, what they’re looking for from a game, and even what style of graphics they prefer. So whose opinions do you value when it comes to making gaming decisions?

“Hi, I’m a PC gamer, and I play on an Apple.”

Nov '0830

PC gamers know, if you wanna game on a PC, you have to do it on Windows OS. Yes, there are notable exceptions. The different Linux flavors have a number of games that really aren’t half bad, and Apple is starting to come around to some serious games. But there are always exceptions to the rule. Because of the iPhone, Apple is rewriting those rules.

Obama Appoints Gamer to Co-Chair FCC Transition Team

Nov '0829

President-elect Barack Obama brings hope and the promise of change with him as he prepares for his transition into the White House, and some of it relates to issues we gamers care about. While it does involve one of my least favorite organizations, the FCC, the good news is that the team Obama has put together to review the FCC includes a WoW player. That’s right fellow gamers, one of us.

My Fighting Game - Impossible to Make

Nov '0829

I like fighting games. If I designed my own game, it would borrow from all my experiences within the genre. I would call it Reign: Generations, a weapon and hand-to-hand based fighter with realistic combat engines. Most likely never to be made, based on my outrageous requirements.

Nov '0826

Every Christmas in Gamerland, there’s always the hot new console or game title that is a must-have both here in the States and around the globe. As tech and gaming have grown exponentially over the past decade, there seems to be more and more frenzy surrounding gaming during the holiday season. Recent numbers posted by Hitwise (a company that monitors internet traffic) have shown that Wii Fit is far and away the most searched-for title online during this year’s holiday lead-up in the UK.  In contrast to last year, the Wii console was the front-runner.

Strange Video Game Cures

Nov '0826

To keep a game fun, the designers have to come up with imaginative representations of practical tools. There can be a dozen methods of replenishing your character’s falling health, but what form should that method take? Should it come in the form of an object or an action? Some of the solutions that designers have come up with have been downright bizarre, but in a video game context, we strangely accept them without question! Let’s hope you’re hungry…

VotD: Angry Dog

Nov '0826

In the quest to dick around on YouTube as efficiently as possible, I’ve sought out humorous animations that can kill time efficiently and I’ve found that the best ones all seem to link back to aniboom.com. Well, I decided to take my YouTube surfing over to aniBoom for a little while and was pleasantly surprised to find I had laughed my ass clean off in a pretty short amount of time at a number of top-notch animated web series. One such series is Chris Voigt’s Angry Dog, which follows the exploits of George, an appropriately angry dog, and his roommates Terri and Herb, a brown bear and giant lobster, respectively. In honor of Thanksgiving, here is a munchy-inducing entry into the Angry Dog series.
