All Hallows Eve is here, so now is the time to bring out the most frightening video games! There are a lot to choose from, varying from the ones that creep you out, make you jump, and of course make you yell, “WTF!” So to help you narrow it down to the best of the best, I’ve put together a list of the top five horror games to play on Halloween. So pop in one of these games, turn out the lights, and say your prayers, because tonight you’re in for a fright!
With the scent of Halloween sweets dangling in the air, many of you are planning your trick-or-treat routes in order to provide maximum candy-grabbing efficiency—and to avoid those people who think pennies, apples, or razor blades are an acceptable substitute for chocolate. It’s a strenuous job, and sometimes you might just decide to “try your luck” at a new place in hopes of free candy. But beware: if there’s anything that video games have taught us, it’s not to go anywhere unprepared (especially if ghouls are involved). The following are five locations you may be better off avoiding during your hunt for free sugar, but in case you do end up waltzing through these neighborhoods, I’ll offer some advice on how to make your trip a treat, even in the trickiest of situations…
I’m a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to movies and video games. I’ll admit, I cover my eyes or look away during the suspenseful parts of a movie, and I’ve even turned off the console after getting surprised by an enemy in Resident Evil. With all the Halloween hubbub going around, there’s been a lot of talk of horror and video games.
In the spirit of Halloween, this video will be posted for all the zombies out there who have a voice, and wish that their opinion could be known. Turns out some of them are reptile fans, specifically that of the turtle assortment. I don’t know which is funnier, the zombie’s blatant disregard for the question (I mean, he is a zombie) or the reporter’s reaction…enjoy.
Ghosts, demons, and zombies have been part of gaming since the beginning. Though they take on different forms in the hands of different developers, they all have one thing in common: they can no longer be counted among the living. Here is a ranking of some outstanding members. Drag your dead bodies off the floor and be recognized.
Released last month, and just in time for Halloween, Konami has delivered the latest in the Silent Hill series. This newest entry to the Silent Hill family was not developed by original Team Silent, which has many avid fans debating if they should even bother with the game. With Double Helix Games at the helm, did they create a game that lives up to the legacy of the originals, or does it fall victim to the curse of Silent Hill?
To be fair, it’s a hard task to accomplish when you develop a game that someone else has established, and with such a well-developed series like Silent Hill, it’s even more difficult. In most cases, these types of games are critically panned for being unfaithful to the rest of the series. So let’s go over the good, the bad, and the ugly of this game and see how it stacks up against the rest of the series.
Braaaains! With Halloween upon us, it’s time to take a look at one of our all-time favorite monsters, the zombie. The undead make for great cannon fodder in video games. Not all zombie-related video games need to be survival horror, designed to get us wetting ourselves with fright. Some are just good ol’ fashioned fun! Simple games where you can blow off some steam mowing down crowds of walking corpses guilt-free! It’s not like they’re people…Well, at least they used to be.
The latest game in the Castlevania series, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is taking the vampire vanquishing franchise to new heights, and breaks down gender barriers at the same time. The first game to feature a sole female protagonist, though Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin had a female main character, Charlotte (Jonathan!), sharing the spotlight, Ecclesia’s Shanoa is a worthy successor to the monster hunting throne.
