360 Darwin Motion Controller: Competition Evolves

Watch Out Wii Remote!Whenever I hear a debate about which console is better, it always seems to be over the same two: the PS3 or the Xbox 360. The Wii is rarely included in these debates for one reason: it’s almost incomparable to the other consoles. With a motion controller, the Wii is capable of producing games that Microsoft and Sony are still dreaming about. But that might all be about to change.

In the recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about Motus Games’ Darwin, a motion controller that Motus refers to as “the natural evolution of the Wii.” It’s been confirmed that Darwin is compatible with the 360, but rumor has it there are PS3 and PC versions in the works. There have been rumors of an official 360 controller for quite a while (named the Newton… hmm), but Microsoft has been pretty tight-lipped about the definite existence of such a controller.

Two Player Darwin

Even at the recent E3 press conference, Microsoft refused to admit that Darwin (or even a controller by Qmotion, who has a deal to create an “active” controller) is the eagerly wished-for, official motion controller. But with the technology so readily available, I can’t imagine that Microsoft won’t jump on it. After all, this way it can now compete with the Wii as easily it does with the PS3.

Darwin takes on the Wii

After all, Darwin truly is the next phase of evolution for motion controllers. It doesn’t require the motion sensor that the Wiimote does and it can be one whole remote or break down into two pieces. Darwin seems to be versatile and exciting and if Microsoft picks up on it, it could give them the edge needed in the competitive console wars.

After all, the Wii needs a lot more competition, and I personally favor the 360 in all great gaming debates.
