Bayonetta: New Levels of Shamelessness
Beautiful babes have always been a video game staple, and PlatinumGames is staying true to that with their upcoming game, Bayonetta. The main character, Bayonetta, is gorgeous, deadly, and most importantly, knows just how to twist you around her finger. With Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Devil May Cry series, at the helm, we are sure to be in for one hell of a ride.
Having been awarded the “Totally Shameless but I’m Still Interested Award” in GotGame’s Tokyo Game Show 2008: First Impression Awards, you probably already know how Bayonetta handles herself. Not afraid to shamelessly show off both her talents and her body, she has enough sex appeal to rival just about any other video game heroine. With this kind of personality, she is likely to take the hearts, figuratively and maybe literally, of gamers worldwide.
Revealed in 1up’s interview with the game’s director, there is a lot more to Bayonetta than meets the eye. The most important aspect of the lead character is that her entire outfit is made of her own hair, which is creepy. This comes in handy when she needs to summon one of her pact monsters. While each of her weapons has a monster applied to it, Bayonetta can also use her hair to summon the monster of her choice. Players are in for an eyeful because when they summon monsters or use large-scale special attacks, Bayonetta needs to utilize the hair that is her wardrobe (you can see this in action in the trailer below).
However, if you’re worried that monster summoning, her four guns (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, collectively named the Scarborough Fair), and a glowing red sword aren’t enough to get this witch through the entire game, you can calm your fears. It has been confirmed that, much like Devil May Cry, there will be a multitude of weapons available to the player. Unfortunately, what these other weapons are have yet to be formally announced.
While this is only a sampling of the game’s extensive battle system, it is truly a showstopper. Made up of past key members of the now closed Clover Studio, PlatinumGames has put a familiar sense of flair into the game. With more weapons then you can shake a stick at, insane combo possibilities, and the aforementioned titillating summoning technique, Bayonetta is shaping up to be a game that makes jaws drop.
