Batman: Arkham Asylum Lands the Voices of Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy

Publishers Eidos and Warner Brothers Interactive have announced that they have secured the talents of actors Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, who will voice characters in the upcoming game, Batman: Arkham Asylum, a third person detective game to be released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Arkham Asylum is being developed by Rocksteady Studios and is set to release next summer. The game will be based on the DC comic book world, differing from most Batman games, as more recently they have resembled characters based on recent adaptations created from other media.

Mark Hamill, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, will voice the Joker, recapitulating a role played by Hamill in the numerous animated Batman productions. In addition to lending his voice to animated projects and his role as Skywalker, Hamill has spent some time on Broadway and has had a few small roles in television.

Not to be outdone by his foe, Arkham Asylum will feature the voice of Kevin Conroy, and like Hamill, is the same role Conroy voices in the animated series. Conroy has been the voice of Batman in the world of animation for the last 15 years, making him the ideal choice to voice the character, landing a sense of continuity for the upcoming game.

Eidos and Rocksteady have set themselves up for success, offering gamers a chance to see a different Batman Universe, one that lives within the highly picturesque comic book pages. The choices of Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy could not have been more appropriate, reaching out to fans of the animated series, a series based within the DC comic universe.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is setting itself up to be a smash hit next summer and couldn’t be coming at a better time. On the heels of the highly successful Dark Knight movie, the Batman franchise is at the height of its popularity. Eidos and Rocksteady are aiming at capitalizing on the success of the franchise, and have taken the right steps in landing Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy. Although, they are just steps, lets hope this momentum is contagious, and Rocksteady nails the story and game play, otherwise this game could join a long list of forgotten games within the Batman mythos.
