Victorious Villains: The House Always Wins

Within the complex dichotomy of heroes and villains there exists a complex, yet delicate tête-à-tête. This is staggeringly apparent in the medium of the comic book. Men and women in capes and masks chasing after dastardly malefactors in a never ending dance; but, what were to happened if one side were to end these tireless encounters? Is stopping evil as simple as locking it in a box? The answer is not as clear or as apparent as one would think.

So She’s Not a Gamer: How to Keep Things Smooth with your Partner

I’m sure I’m not alone in this, but my significant other is adamantly not a gamer. So, my penchant for shooting aliens, or throwing magic spells at dragons is lost on her altogether. She can’t fathom my lust for new gaming toys or why I droll over screenshots of upcoming releases. Sometimes it is necessary to be better than an average partner, sometimes you need to strap your boots up tight, lock-and-load and get ready to level up!

Virus-Free Made Easy (and Cheap)

I hate virus scanners. Perhaps I’m in the minority, but they seem like a dredge on society. They completely take over your system, set up firewalls all over the place, bug you every time you try a new program and slow down everything by eating up all your system resources.

I don’t keep them around, and I hardly ever get a virus. But every now and then, something unexpected happens, and as such I’ve figured out some great ways to prevent them. Here are some tips to help keep Windows under control without locking it up like Fort Knox.

Another Comic-Con come and gone, and this past convention had some huge announcements and exclusives that leaked their way onto the internet for those not capable of attending the convention ourselves. The Console Wars: Why They Have Just Begun

With the release of the Xbox 360 in November of 2005, Microsoft had a full year to gain a majority of the market share, and did so with the release of great game exclusives, and a reasonably affordable next-gen console. A year later, the Wii and the PS3 were released, and while two years later, the PS3 sales have been somewhat sluggish, losing Sony $3 billion dollars. When Metal Gear Solid 4 came out, the PS3 definitely picked itself up by its bootstraps and began to sell competitively…two years too late.

Corporate Case Ruling Cancels Confidential Information

Good new for Google: during a court settlement with Viacom in a New York federal court earlier this month, Google doesn’t have to turn over their source code, the code for identifying repeat copyright infringement uploads, copies of all videos marked private, and Google’s advertising database schema. Bad news for everyone else in America who has ever been to YouTube: due to the judge’s ruling, Google has to turn over the I.P. addresses and user names of people who viewed copyrighted videos and the databases concerning those copyrighted videos and how many times they were viewed. The judge deemed the privacy concerns as “speculative.” Why is this an issue worth mentioning? There are several different reasons.

Masculinity and Square Enix: Where Is My Chest Hair?

Masculinity is a tricky topic. While Feminism has offered society a philosophical and practical view of itself, culturally and historically, a Masculinity movement has never really taken off. Sure, there was a time when men would gather in the woods, hug and cry, discussing their repressed feelings and insecurities, but it never really attracted much of a crowd. The image of masculinity is molded by popular media to be someone who takes action, and lets his guns do the talking for him. Western video games have heroes like Marcus Fenix, an ultra gruff, blood-soaked man with a troubled past. But, what do we get from over seas? Well, that is a horse of a different color.

Fallout 3 Gets the Boot from Australia

Recently, Fallout 3 has earned Austrialia’s RC rating, meaning it would be “refused classification” from their ratings board. As the Classification Board puts it, the current version of the game “cannot legally be shown, sold or hired in Australia.” Essentially, the board is putting Fallout 3 on the same aesthetic level of hard core pornography and snuff films. But the real surprising part: it’s not for its violence.
