With the upcoming release of the Xbox 360 Grand Theft Auto IV expansion, The Lost and Damned, Rockstar is celebrating by giving players a bit of a gift. Starting at 9am (PST) on February 17th, players of both the original GTA IV and The Lost and Damned will be presently surprised to find that they do not need an Xbox LIVE Gold membership to play online with friends. This free service will only last for six days; however, the official end time for the free service is February 22nd at 11:59pm (PST). This is just long enough to get yourself re-hooked on the game and make you want to renew your Gold membership.
If you think that’s not enough, there will also be special events based around GTA IV and its expansion throughout the week as well. Including, but not limited to, a chance “Game With Fame” with Hip Hop DJ and producer Statik Selektah, being able to play GTA IV with some of the minds behind the game, an “Xbox All Nighter”, and multiple sweepstake promotions. For more information on the events and six free days of online multiplayer in GTA IV and it’s new expansion, check out the official website.

It has been said that there aren’t nearly enough games about the old dusty American West. Well the wonderful developers over at Rockstar Games have come to the rescue once again with the sequel to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver. With a fall ’09 release date and having been teased to us since 2005 under the title of “Old West Project” what can we come to expect from Red Dead Redemption? With each chapter of Left 4 Dead being its own story with a cinematic gameplay style, if there was ever a game that needed to be made into a movie, it’s this one. However, without a good director, writer, and cast the Left 4 Dead movie would fall victim to the same fate as most other game to movie transitions. In this age of gaming, trying to find something truly new and innovative is more difficult than trying to play Crysis with the minimum system requirements. Fortunately for us, indie game developers have taken it upon themselves to recreate dying genres, invent new ones, and bring back the classic feel to video games. One such amazing indie developed game is Crayon Physics Deluxe.

Upon its initial release, the Wii’s remote controllers had been given a bad rap of being dangerous. However, this was mostly because if the remote were not used properly you would have the little while controller lodged in the dead center of your TV screen. Most gamers know that this isn’t anything new, and that controllers, games, and even consoles can be dangerous all by themselves.

With Valve’s online game distribution system getting more popular and EA having joined up with them back in 2005, it is about time that some of EA’s titles made it onto Steam! Games like Spore, Warhammer Online, and Mass Effect are now available for download via Steam. More titles like Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge, and Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 will be added next month. It’s beginning to look like Steam will soon become the envy of all other forms of downloadable PC games in the future with EA finally backing them up in this department. However, for those of you outside of the United States prepare to be disappointed as the only fully confirmed availability for this service is if you live in North America and there is no indication of whether this service will become available outside of the U.S. just yet.
