Armor Games Creates Satirical Achievement Unlocked Flash game
Armor games have recently released a fun little flash game, combining clever game play with satire, in an entertaining little package. The game capitalizes on the gaming market’s relatively new fad of incorporating achievements for players to unlock.
In today’s age of expensive video games, a market saturated with games, and a sluggish economy, developers are faced with a challenging task which has changed the shape of video games, as they no longer represent the games of yesteryear. This new challenge can be summed up with a simple word: replayability, or features which will extend the playing life of a game. One of the relatively newer ways to add to a game’s playing life is to include unlockable achievements, which is where Armor Games steps in.
The flash game, titled Achievement Unlocked, was created simply as a way to poke fun at this new gaming feature which now dominates the market. The goal of the game is not to advance levels, beat bosses, or destroy enemies. Gamers are instead tasked with completing random tasks which have no correlation with each other whatsoever.
Players control a small elephant and must maneuver the creature around the screen to accomplish different tasks. These tasks range from killing five elephants in a pit to jumping for 10 seconds straight. The goal is to complete the tasks and reach 100% completion. The tasks are arranged in order on the side of the screen and often only give hints as to what needs to be accomplished. Don’t worry though, if you get stuck there is a guide describing what each task actually is.
Does any of this sound familiar? Of course, developers aren’t to blame. In such a cutthroat market, producers have been forced to create games which are worth their price and can be played for more than a few weeks, hence the random and often agonizing task of trying to unlock all those achievements.
So for those who need a break from the excruciating task of completing random tasks with hints that offer no help, I’d suggest heading over and giving this game a chance. At the very least it’ll give you a chuckle and possibly make you think twice before you break another controller trying to unlock that last achievement for the 100th time.
