Are The Beatles Coming to Rock Band?

Earlier today, MTV and Apple Corps. held a joint press conference to announce what rumormongers have been speculating about for months: that The Beatles will be featured in a music-based video game. However, the rumors that had been flying around were that The Beatles would be featured as DLC for Rock Band 2, and that’s not quite what MTV and Apple had in mind.

What the two corporations revealed in their press conference was that music by The Beatles would be featured in an all new game. Although they did not deny the possibility that there could be a Beatles expansion to Rock Band 2, they stressed that the game The Beatles will be in will be an all new title built from the ground up.

Now, for those of you voting for The Beatles on Guitar Hero: World Tour, I’m sorry, but you’re going to be disappointed. The deal that Apple made with MTV/Harmonix is indeed exclusive. Apple was impressed with Harmonix’s innovations in the music game genre, and thus, gave them exclusive rights as far as video games are concerned.

Apparently, the new game idea was originally conceived by Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney. They also asked for input from Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, to honor their husbands’ memories. So really, the game has a blessing from the entire Beatles family. And in the tradition of the Beatles, the game will be innovative and experimental.

So far, this is all the press conference has revealed. But keep checking back, and we’ll keep you updated as we find out more.
