5 Best Things About Blizzcon 2009

Blizzcon 2009 was just as great if not better than last year last year. Blizzard once again held no punches with their annual conference. Last year there were 16,000 attendees, this year 20,000. Here’s my 5 favorite things about this year’s Blizzcon.

StarCraft 2 Campaign

We all knew that the campaign was going to be different and this time we got to play it. The demo consisted of the initial introduction as well as two playable missions. I played the multiplayer as well, and it was surprising to me to see the difference in units. For example, the medic is not included in muti-player, but is included in the campaign. After each mission I got to buy upgrades and chat with the characters. I’m really looking forward to more.

BNET Announcement

Battle.net is going to be awesome. Map making/sharing, tournament brackets, competitive leagues, and more! On top of that you’re going to be able to see what your friends are playing. I’m looking forward to finding a proper opponent for online play instead of just joining a game with a semi-pro StarCraft player and getting my butt kicked.

Costume Contest

Is it just me, or are the costumes getting better and better? People are finding ways to get lights, leaf blowers, multiple arms, and other crazy stuff on their costumes. Even with the limitation of “no giant mechanical turtles”, Blizzcon fans are still making amazing works of art.

Diablo 3 Monk

Who doesn’t like beating baddies into pulp with your bare hands? The playable monk showed off that you don’t have to have a weapon or magic to kill stuff in Diablo 3.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Great stuff right here. Blizzard, I give you major props. They were bound to add another race but nobody wants to level from 1 with the same areas and same quests. So what do they do? Make everything new again! By redoing all of Azeroth, they are basically making an entire new game. Add in extension end-game content, and the expansion is something we’re all looking forward to.

That’s it. I’m looking forward to next year to see what they’re releasing next!

The Costume Contest is amazing. Believe the amount of time, money and thought that goes into those things.
