‘08 White House Hopefuls to Set the World in Flames

Once the votes are tallied tonight, and the cries of joy or rage ring out across the country, the political storm we’ve been facing the past couple of years shall begin to subside. But Pandemic Studios is going to continue stoking the political flame, so to speak. In a video report on G4TV’s X-Play, it was announced that an upcoming batch of DLC for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames will feature playable versions of both Barack Obama and Sarah Palin.

The gameplay released so far shows Obama using neither a hatchet nor scalpel, but rather a hand grenade while Palin, ever the “maverick,” tunes up a hapless helicopter pilot from behind with her bare hands. You can see X-Play’s full report and gameplay footage here.

Playable political figures in games is nothing new; people used to play as Bill Clinton and Al Gore back in the original NBA Jam, but this DLC might prove a bit troublesome by comparison. Mercenaries 2 had already sparked some resentment from Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez because of its over-arching invasion theme, but now that future American leaders can actually cause some of the destruction, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee might have some explaining to do.
